Donuts 







Ingredients


  • For Donuts:
  • Instant Yeast 2 ¼ tsp
  • Warm water 1/8 cup
  • Lukewarm milk ¾ cup
  • Sugar ¼ cup
  • Salt 1/2 tsp
  • Egg 1
  • Oil 1/6 cup
  • All-purpose flour 2 ½ cups
  • Vanilla Frosting:
  • Solid vegetable shortening ¼ cup
  • Butter or margarine 1/4 cup
  • Clear vanilla extract ½ tsp
  • Confectioners’ sugar 2 cups (sifted)
  • Milk 1 tbsp
  • For Chocolate Glaze:
  • Chocolate chips 1 cup (semisweet)
  • Cooking Directions

    1. For Donuts:
    2. Dissolve yeast in warm water in mixing bowl.
    3. Add milk, sugar, salt, egg, shortening and 1 cup of flour.
    4. Beat on low speed scraping bowl constantly, 30 seconds.
    5. Stir in remaining flour until smooth.
    6. Cover and let rise in warm place, approximately 50 - 60 minutes.
    7. Turn dough onto floured surface.
    8. Roll dough ½ inch thick.
    9. Cut with round cookie cutter.
    10. Heat vegetable oil in fryer.
    11. Slide doughnuts into hot oil.
    12. Turn doughnuts as they turn golden brown then remove.
    13. When cool, make small hole to insert vanilla frosting.
    14. Take a sharp narrow knife and carefully make a large cavity inside of the doughnut to hold the frosting.
    15. Fill the doughnuts generously with vanilla frosting and dust heavily with powdered sugar.
    16. For Vanilla Frosting:
    17. Cream butter and shortening, gradually add sugar at a time.
    18. Add milk and vanilla, beat until light and fluffy.
    19. Can keep for 2 weeks in airtight.
